Out on film
Out on Film, Atlanta’s gay-pride film festival, is currently soaring into its 27th year. It is an 8-day festival that shows round the clock movies that pertain to the LGBT community. Each October, the festival is held to coincide with the Atlanta Pride Parade. The festival, like the parade, is put together in order to celebrate every sexuality, and to bring together the community. They aim to create a securer environment in Atlanta that welcomes the gay community. They welcome everyone to attend, whether part of the community or not.
Out on Film features movies and media about, by, and for the LGBT community. Around 50 movies are screened each year over the span of one week. Ticket-holders can stop in and out as they please. The genres of the movies range from comedies, to foreign films, and everything in-between. As long as the film raises includes the general LGBT theme, the committee behind the festival will review it for consideration.
Because the festival is non-profit, all proceeds go to supporting the LGBT community. However, this isn’t the only community who benefits from the celebration. The film also emphasizes racial and ethnic diversity among the LGBT community. Additionally, it supports local and emerging movie producers who want their material to be seen by a wide audience.
In order to publicize the event, Out on Film uses many types of media (In addition to movies, of course). The Out on Film website is updated to list current events and fundraisers going on in Atlanta. They also utilize Twitter to send present-time messages to followers. Their Facebook page, with thousands of people, allows interaction among their audiences.
